breathing wall

Dear Salvatore,

It’s been a couple of weeks since I learned about your call for a cure, and I waited until this moment because I wanted to give you something really meaningful. I hope you won’t mind my slowness… but this slowness is also part of what I want to give you as a cure. Many times, when I’ve felt pain or uncertainty, I have found relief in meditation. Uncertainty and pain stay there after meditating, but in a different, more fruitful way. Now, many people will tell you that you have to meditate in such and such manner. But I found my own, and I think everybody should find their own way too. This is what I do: I sit in front of a wall. Then I do a series of pranayamas, which are circular breathing excercises: I inhale as I count to 7, I hold the air inside me as I count to 4, I exhale as I count to 7 and I remain without air as I count to 4. A friend told me that this particular pranayama is supposed to bring a balance to your body, and there are other types of pranayamas which might energize you or help you to relax… but I’m not an expert in that. I just wanted to tell you my secret: it’s really the wall that counts. You see, I came to understand that the wall and I were essentially made of the same matter, and that there was no difference between the wall and myself. All of a sudden, I heard the world around me: all this noise, just like the visual noise on the wall. I realized that the unity of things can be understood by embracing noise… Well, those are the tools that help me face the world every day. They bring me peace and strength. This video is an invitation for you, and I like to think that someday, after you see it, we will do a series of pranayamas together, each one of us in front of his own wall.

Warmly,

Eugenio.
